Running time 26:46
As part of WGBH's ongoing Eye on Education initiative, La Plaza first introduced audiences to Charlestown High School students Zahira Lerebours and Edwin Lara during the summer after freshman year in "20 Days to 10th Grade." In this second chapter of their academic lives, buckling down and passing their courses are not the only challenges Edwin and Zahira face.
As members of the class of 2003, they will be among the first students in Massachusetts required to pass standardized statewide exams known as MCAS in order to graduate from high school. Edwin will have to control his behavior and ride the wave of his recent academic success. Zahira will have to focus on school more than ever.
About the LA PLAZA Series: In Latin American Communities, the plaza is the cultural center of town - a place where people meet, where the community celebrates, and where ideas are exchanged. One of the nation's longest running television series devoted to Latino themes, LaPlaza offers viewers a vista into the Latino community through an eclectic mix of award-winning documentaries, cutting-edge music programs, and provocative in-studio interviews.
